We’re Going to Be Straight With You
Most privacy policies are written by lawyers, for lawyers. You’ve seen them — walls of dense text, passive voice stacked on top of passive voice, paragraphs that technically say something but somehow explain nothing.
We tried to write this one differently.
This Privacy Policy explains, in plain language, what information we collect when you use lifeinsurancequotecalculator.com, why we collect it, who we share it with, and what control you have over it. If something isn’t clear, or if you have a question this page doesn’t answer, reach out to us directly at support@lifeinsurancequotecalculator.com. We actually read those emails.
1. Who We Are
Life Insurance Quote Calculator (“we,” “us,” “our”) is an independent insurance resource and comparison platform. We are not a licensed insurance carrier, underwriter, or broker. We operate lifeinsurancequotecalculator.com (the “Site”) and related tools that help consumers research life insurance options and receive premium estimates.
Our registered contact for privacy-related matters:
Email: support@lifeinsurancequotecalculator.com Website: lifeinsurancequotecalculator.com/about/
2. What Information We Collect
We collect two types of information: things you give us directly, and things we pick up automatically when you use our site.
2a. Information You Provide to Us
When you use our life insurance quote calculator or interact with our platform, you may provide:
Quote Request Information
- Age or date of birth
- Gender
- State of residence
- Coverage amount you’re considering
- Desired policy term length
- Tobacco or nicotine use status
- General health status (e.g., excellent, good, fair)
- Height and weight
Contact Information (if you choose to share it)
- First and last name
- Email address
- Phone number
You are never required to provide your name, email, or phone number to generate a quote estimate. If you choose to enter contact information — for example, to receive your quote by email or to connect with a licensed agent — that is entirely your call.
Communications With Us If you email us, submit a contact form, or otherwise reach out, we retain a record of that correspondence including any information you share in it.
2b. Information We Collect Automatically
Like essentially every website operating today, we collect certain data automatically when you visit:
Usage and Device Data
- IP address
- Browser type and version
- Operating system
- Device type (desktop, mobile, tablet)
- Pages viewed and time spent on each
- Referring URL (what site sent you here)
- Clicks and navigation behavior within the Site
Cookies and Similar Technologies We use cookies, pixel tags, and similar tracking technologies. We explain this in more detail in Section 6. If you’d rather just know the short version: yes, we use cookies; yes, you can control most of them; and no, we’re not doing anything unusual with them.
3. Why We Collect This Information
We collect information for specific, legitimate reasons — not because we can, but because we need it to do something useful.
To generate your quote estimates. The health, demographic, and coverage information you enter is the direct input our calculator needs to return meaningful premium estimates. We can’t tell you what a 20-year, $500,000 policy might cost a 38-year-old non-smoker without knowing those things.
To connect you with carriers and agents (if you ask us to). If you choose to proceed beyond an estimate and connect with a licensed agent or insurance carrier through our platform, we pass along the relevant information you’ve provided so they can follow up appropriately.
To improve the Site and our tools. Usage data helps us understand which parts of the calculator are working well, where people get stuck, what’s confusing, and what we can make better.
To communicate with you. If you’ve given us your email address, we may use it to send your quote results, follow up on a request you made, or (with your permission) share relevant information about coverage options or rate changes.
To comply with legal obligations. Sometimes the law requires us to collect, retain, or disclose certain information. We comply with those requirements.
To detect and prevent fraud. We monitor for unusual activity that could indicate misuse of our platform or harm to our users.
4. How We Share Your Information
We don’t sell your personal information in the way that phrase usually conjures — we are not handing over your email to random marketers so they can pepper you with unrelated offers. But we do share information in specific, defined circumstances, and you deserve to know what those are.
Insurance Carriers and Licensed Agents
This is the core of what we do. When you use our platform to get a life insurance quote and choose to connect with coverage options, we share your quote request information with insurance carriers and/or licensed agents who can follow up with actual policy offers.
By submitting your information through our platform, you are consenting to be contacted by these partners regarding life insurance products. You can expect phone calls, emails, and/or text messages from them depending on the contact information you’ve provided. If you don’t want that contact, don’t submit your contact details — you can still use the calculator for estimates.
Third-Party Service Providers
We work with companies that help us run the Site and our business. These include:
- Analytics providers (to understand how the site is used)
- Email delivery services (to send you quote results or correspondence)
- Cloud hosting and infrastructure providers
- Customer support tools
These service providers access your information only to perform services on our behalf and are contractually required to protect it.
Legal and Safety Disclosures
We may disclose your information if we believe in good faith that doing so is necessary to:
- Comply with a legal obligation, court order, or government request
- Protect the rights, property, or safety of our company, our users, or others
- Investigate or prevent fraud, security threats, or technical issues
Business Transfers
If Life Insurance Quote Calculator is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We’ll notify you via a prominent notice on the Site if this happens, and we’ll let you know if your information becomes subject to a different privacy policy.
Aggregated or De-Identified Data
We may share aggregated, anonymized data — like “X% of users in their 40s request coverage above $500,000” — with partners, for research purposes, or in public materials. This data cannot reasonably be used to identify you.
5. How We Handle Quote Data Specifically
We want to give this its own section because it matters.
The health and demographic information you enter to generate a life insurance quote is sensitive. We treat it accordingly.
- We do not use your health information to make decisions about you outside of the insurance context you’ve initiated.
- We do not share your health data with employers, government agencies, or data brokers.
- We do not use the health data you provide to build advertising profiles or target you with non-insurance-related marketing.
- When we pass your information to insurance carriers and agents, we do so to facilitate the specific service you’ve requested — not for their unrelated marketing purposes (though their own privacy policies will govern what they do once they receive it, so we encourage you to review those as well).
6. Cookies and Tracking Technologies
What We Use
Essential Cookies: These make the site work. They remember things like where you are in the quote process so you don’t have to start over if you navigate back. You can block these, but the site may not function properly if you do.
Analytics Cookies: These help us understand how people use the site — which pages get the most traffic, where users drop off, how long people spend on each step. We use this data to make the experience better. Tools like Google Analytics fall into this category.
Marketing and Remarketing Cookies: If you’ve visited our site, you may see our ads on other websites or platforms. This is standard digital advertising practice. If you’d rather not see those ads, most browsers and ad platforms offer opt-out mechanisms.
Third-Party Cookies: Some of our partners place their own cookies when you interact with features they provide. We don’t control those cookies directly — their respective privacy policies apply.
How to Control Cookies
You have real options here:
- Browser settings: All major browsers let you view, block, and delete cookies. Check your browser’s help section for instructions specific to Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge, etc.
- Google Analytics opt-out: Google offers a browser add-on at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout that prevents your data from being included in Google Analytics reporting.
- Ad opt-outs: The Digital Advertising Alliance (optout.aboutads.info) and Network Advertising Initiative (optout.networkadvertising.org) offer opt-out tools for interest-based advertising.
- Do Not Track: Some browsers send a “Do Not Track” signal. We honor reasonable Do Not Track requests where technically feasible, though not all tracking can be disabled by this signal alone.
Note: opting out of certain cookies won’t make ads disappear — it just means the ads you see are less tailored to your browsing behavior.
7. Data Retention — How Long We Keep Your Information
We don’t keep your data forever. Here’s how we think about retention:
Quote Request Data: We retain quote request data (including health and demographic inputs) for a period sufficient to service your request and comply with applicable insurance regulations. In most cases, this means we retain it for up to 3 years unless you request deletion earlier or applicable law requires a different timeframe.
Contact Information: If you’ve provided your name, email, or phone number, we retain it as long as necessary to fulfill the purpose for which you shared it, or until you ask us to delete it.
Usage and Analytics Data: Aggregated usage data is retained indefinitely in anonymized form. Non-anonymized usage logs are typically retained for 12 months.
Communications: Records of emails or messages you send us are retained for as long as they’re reasonably needed for support or legal purposes.
8. How We Protect Your Information
We use industry-standard technical and organizational security measures to protect your information from unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. These include:
- Encryption in transit (SSL/TLS) for all data you submit through the Site
- Secure server infrastructure with access controls
- Regular security reviews of our systems and practices
- Limited internal access to personally identifiable information — only people who need it to do their jobs can see it
No system is completely impenetrable. We can’t guarantee absolute security, and no one who tells you otherwise is being honest with you. What we can tell you is that we take this seriously and work continuously to maintain appropriate protections.
If we ever experience a data breach that puts your information at risk, we will notify affected users as required by applicable law and as promptly as practically possible.
9. Your Rights and Choices
Depending on where you live, you may have legal rights regarding your personal information. Here’s how we handle them regardless of your location, because we think these rights are reasonable:
Access
You can ask us what personal information we hold about you. We’ll tell you.
Correction
If something we have on file is inaccurate, you can ask us to correct it.
Deletion
You can ask us to delete your personal information. We’ll honor that request unless we’re legally required to retain certain records or unless deletion would interfere with an active transaction you’ve initiated.
Portability
In certain cases, you can ask us to provide your data in a portable format.
Opt-Out of Marketing Communications
If you’ve received marketing emails from us, every email includes an unsubscribe link. Click it and we’ll remove you from marketing communications promptly. Note: we may still send you transactional messages (like responding to a support inquiry) even after you unsubscribe from marketing.
Opt-Out of Data Sharing for Insurance Purposes
If you’d like us to stop sharing your information with insurance carriers and agents, contact us at support@lifeinsurancequotecalculator.com. Be aware that if you’ve already been connected with a carrier, their use of your information is governed by their own privacy policy, and you’ll need to contact them directly to opt out of their communications.
To exercise any of these rights, reach out to us at support@lifeinsurancequotecalculator.com with the subject line “Privacy Request.” We’ll respond within 7 Business days.
10. State-Specific Privacy Rights
California Residents (CCPA/CPRA)
If you’re a California resident, you have specific rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act and the California Privacy Rights Act:
The Right to Know: You can request a full disclosure of the personal information we’ve collected about you over the past 12 months, including the categories of information, the sources, our business purposes for collecting it, and the categories of third parties we’ve shared it with.
The Right to Delete: You can request deletion of personal information we’ve collected, subject to certain exceptions.
The Right to Correct: You can request that we correct inaccurate personal information.
The Right to Opt-Out of Sale or Sharing: California law broadly defines “sale” and “sharing” of personal data. To the extent our sharing of your information with insurance partners constitutes a “sale” or “share” under California law, you have the right to opt out. Contact us at support@lifeinsurancequotecalculator.com to exercise this right.
The Right to Non-Discrimination: We will not discriminate against you for exercising any of your California privacy rights. You’ll get the same service, same prices, and same experience regardless.
Authorized Agents: California residents may designate an authorized agent to submit requests on their behalf. We’ll require written authorization or a power of attorney before honoring agent requests.
To submit a California privacy request: support@lifeinsurancequotecalculator.com — Subject line: “California Privacy Request.”
Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, and Other State Privacy Laws
Several other states have enacted comprehensive privacy legislation with rights similar to those described above. If you’re a resident of a state with applicable privacy laws, you have the right to access, correct, delete, and opt out of certain uses of your data. Contact us at the email below and we’ll work with you to honor your rights under applicable state law.
11. Children’s Privacy
Our Site and services are not directed to children under the age of 18, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from minors. Life insurance is a financial product for adults, and our calculator is designed accordingly.
If you believe a minor has submitted personal information through our platform, please contact us at support@lifeinsurancequotecalculator.com immediately. We will delete that information promptly upon verification.
12. Third-Party Links and Carrier Websites
Our Site contains links to insurance carriers, agents, and other third-party websites. When you click through to one of these sites, you leave our platform and their own privacy policies govern. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of third-party sites, and we encourage you to review their policies before submitting any personal information.
This is especially relevant when you connect with an insurance carrier or agent through our platform. Once your information is in their hands, how they use and protect it is their responsibility, not ours.
13. Do Not Track Signals
Some browsers transmit “Do Not Track” signals to websites. Because there is no universally accepted standard for how websites should respond to these signals, our site does not currently alter its data collection practices based on DNT signals. We do, however, offer the opt-out mechanisms described in Section 6 and Section 9 that give you meaningful control over your data.
14. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We’ll update this policy from time to time — as our practices evolve, as laws change, and as we build new features. When we make meaningful changes, we’ll update the “Last Updated” date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, notify you by email or through a notice on the Site.
We encourage you to review this policy periodically. Continued use of the Site after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy.
15. Contact Us
If you have questions, concerns, or requests related to this Privacy Policy — or if you just want to understand something more clearly before you share your information with us — please reach out. We mean it when we say we read these emails.
Email: support@lifeinsurancequotecalculator.com Subject line for privacy requests: “Privacy Request” Response time: We aim to respond within 5 business days for general inquiries and within 30 days for formal rights requests.
Mailing address: Life Insurance Quote Calculator Privacy Department [Your Business Address]
This Privacy Policy was written to be read and understood, not just to satisfy a legal checkbox. If something here doesn’t make sense, or if you feel like we’re not living up to what this policy says, please tell us. We’d rather know.
